Exercises for Mind-Body-Spirit Wellness and Healing (Unit 6):

The universal loving kindness meditation exercise was quite interesting. Even though this exercises seems like it only applies to romance relationships, that is just not so. Upon practicing this exercise, I’ve come to find that taking 10 minutes out of my day to calm my mind and body is actually quite beneficial. As I repeat the four phrases, I feel an empowerment and begin to shift my focus from personal love to universal loving-kindness. The integral assessment discussed in chapter 4 of this week’s readings enables you to gain sustained health, happiness, and wholeness by freeing your mind, body, and soul of negative energy, thoughts, and feelings. I felt a calming throughout my whole body when completing this assessment process. It’s was very refreshing and relaxing. I discovered that taking the time out to reflect and recollect my mind frame reduces those stressors that affect my performance and attitude throughout the day. My energy level also improved as I took the time to recharge my mind and body by meditation and utilizing breathing exercises.

  1. Jasmine,
Lucky you to feel that calming sensation during the assessment process. I think I had a different reaction, but perhaps that was because I was just having a hard time finding only one area to focus on. I swear, sometimes I think I have ADHD and a crazy busy life due to my total procrastination habits. I know - I bring it upon myself.
I agree that the Universal Loving Kindness exercise seems as if it would mainly have a place in the romantic relationship arena, but can also apply to any relationship - whether personal or not. If only everyone applied those 4 phases to not only people they knew but to strangers as well, the world may be a lot nicer place.
    :)

  2. Hey Jasmine

When doing the exercises I never got the feeling that it only applies to romance relationships. I think it’s more about developing healthier relationships with anyone. Just about caring for them and loving them rather it’s romantically or a family member. The exercise kind of makes me think that I am praying for that person, praying for them to be happy, stress free, and etc. Do you feel the same way when you do the exercise?
